HTTYD2 movie review

10 out of 10

$48 to get in, $30 in treats. Worth every penny and then some X 10!!!

Dreamworks outdid themselves – this was, in Hiccups words, AMAZING!!!!

Everyone has seen the previews, but I won’t give anything away. Suffice it to say that this movie was better than the first one. There was cheering, laughter, clapping, tears, and smiles all around.

Fantastic movie for ALL ages. Best movie I’ve seen this year as a matter of fact!!! Well worth it to see in theatre – don’t wait for the DVD – see it now!!!!

Godzilla review – spoiler alert

Well, Japanese monster levels an American city with (Mothra?’s) help. Basically that’s the synopsis and while it was visually incredible with lots of special effects and tons of explosions, it was also quite predictable, even for the neophyte Godzilla movie person (namely me).

I took both my kids (hubby is out of town and I wanted to see a movie and X-Men was sold out by the time we got there). The teen girl was bored and the pre-teen boy was even more so. He kept asking for food (we ate in the food court at Cross Iron Mills Mall, but had no popcorn so he was STARVING).

Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed. It left me hanging in places, yet tied up too many loose ends for a nice clean ending. And the monster as hero in the end is SUCH a cliche ending. I give it a 4.5 out of 10.

Movie review – The Other Woman

Well, I won another set of tickets, and I am so glad I did!!!

WOW – I LOVED it!  Best movie this year (remember, The Hobbit came out last November, so it doesn’t count!!).  I’ve seen Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Pompeii and I Frankenstein on tickets I’ve won now, and this one, by far, was the BEST!!

Funny – OMG, FUNNY!!  I haven’t laughed that hard in ages.  It was an absolute hoot!  I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Cameron Diaz, but I’ll watch this movie again – and pay for it this time – in a heartbeat.

I won’t give spoilers, no more than IMDB does

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2203939/
After discovering her boyfriend is married, Carly soon meets the wife he’s been cheating on. And when yet another affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on the three-timing SOB.

And do they ever!!!   I clapped, I laughed, I cheered – and I wasn’t the only one!  The entire audience was involved, and we all loved it!  It was the uncut/un-edited/un-rated version – they are still doing final editing, so what I saw tonight won’t be what is playing in the theatres, but I sure hope they keep all the best bits!

We did get there a bit late again, and ended up sitting really close to the front again, which was a little distracting.  This movie is NOT meant to be seen that close, I really recommend sitting back farther.  Cameron Diaz is a beautiful woman, as is Kate Upton.  But seeing their faces THAT close up is NOT a good idea.

I give it an 8 out of 10, and so does my husband (yes, he went to a chick flick, and it wasn’t because of Kate Upton either!!)  If we sat a little farther away, I think we would have given it a 9, it was that good, but the seats make it an 8.

Quick review of Captain America The Winter Soldier

I won’t give any spoilers here, that’s bad taste.  But I will give my opinion.  That’s allowed.

To begin with, I went on a freebie.  I won the tickets (my third set this year YAY!! – gotta love contesting!!) and Kirk and I went tonight to the theatre in Chinook Mall, here in Calgary.

It was 3-D, and we arrived fairly late, so ended up sitting in the very front.  This was sucky, but it actually allows me to give a better opinion.  I didn’t like the seats in the front when we went to Gladiator years ago, and had made promises to ourselves to never sit that close again.  But these were free, so we decided to stick around and watch it.

I’m glad we did.  Although I could see pretty much every pore on Chris Evan’s face, it is such a good looking face I didn’t mind at all.  It was a little distracting with the 3-D so close, but not so much that the movie was destroyed by it.  My husband disagrees with me, but he had Scarlett Johansson to look at.  My neck was strained by the end, and sitting so close made me move my head to see what was going on when stuff moved from side to side on the screen.  And there is a lot of stuff going on all over the screen, so I have to say my neck is actually quite sore.

The story line was a little weak, and it seemed a little choppy sometimes.  But I’ll admit I haven’t seen all the other movies yet, so that could be why I wasn’t as impressed as others might be.  It was a good movie, with good actors that played their parts well, so I’ll give it a 7.5 out of 10 for now – I may revise this opinion at a later date.
